Now is a good time for progressives to think about what we should encourage and what we should resist during the current crisis and in the reconstruction which will follow. The last thing we need is a repeat of the 2008 global financial crisis. Then, the eye-wateringly large taxpayer bailouts of financial institutions were accompanied by short-lived expressions of banker regret and questioning of the economic system. This soon evaporated with a return to business-as-usual, economics-as-usual, plutocracy-as-usual and one-percentism on steroids.
